Bennington
Context
Bennington is a wind power plant located in Marshall County, Illinois, in the United States. With its 33 wind turbines of 2.82 MW each, the plant has a total power capacity of 93.06 MW. Bennington Wind is the third wind farm developed and operated by Akuo in North America. It is in operation since November 2021. The plant has been developed with a consortium led by Akuo and composed of Harrison Street, Morgan Stanley, under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”), and GE Energy Financial Services (GE EFS).
Bennington wind power plant delivers significant economic benefits to Marshall County and the State of Illinois, having already created an estimated 350 jobs during construction, 150 of which were filled by residents of Marshall County. Also, six full-time jobs (2 internal and 4 external) have been created to support plant operations, during the life of the plant.
Over the operational life of the wind farm, the plant is expected to generate over $19 million in property taxes with $12.1 million going to local schools.
Bennington has implemented a cutting-edge radar detection system to minimize night light disturbance to local communities. Bennington wind farm also supports the local community food bank.
