La Ligne des 400
Solar energy and agriculture at the Reunion Island
The “Ligne des 400” solar farm is located, as its name indicates, at an altitude of 400 meters, in the south of Reunion Island. This PV power plant meets a local need for energy supply in a part of the island where the electricity grid experiences difficulties.
It includes an agrivoltaic component implemented by Agriterra, a partner of the Akuo Group, which manages the agricultural part of the site by growing passion fruit between the rows of solar panels. A part of the land has also been left free to be entirely dedicated to arboriculture. Agriterra grows various species of fruit trees (citrus, mango, avocado, etc.), as well as aromatic and medicinal species (cinnamon, camphor, eucalyptus, Ylang-Ylang, etc.). The plot is in the process of being converted to organic farming.
