Margalha solar power plant under construction in Portugal

With a capacity of 147 MWp, the Margalha solar tracker project represents a significant milestone in our commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future in Portugal. Located in the Gavião area of Alentejo, a region renowned for its abundant sunshine, Margalha makes the most of this natural resource to produce clean, local and renewable electricity.

By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the country's energy independence, this project plays an essential role in the fight against climate change.

The Portuguese government, through the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action, has submitted its revised Energy & Climate Plan 2030 (PNEC 20230) to the European Commission, and the review process is expected to continue until the final version is delivered by June 30, 2024.

In this revision, the outlook for installed capacity to generate electricity from renewable sources, based on planned policies and measures, will amount to 47 GW. This means that, by the end of the decade, renewable energies in Portugal will account for 85% of total electricity production. According to the new plan, the share of photovoltaics is set to rise to 20.4 GW, compared with the current 3.7 GW.
