Reunion Island
Long-standing presence
Akuo’s history is closely tied to Reunion Island which has been a real testing ground for the Group. In this exceptional part of the world, thanks to its geography, population and openness to innovation, we have deployed our expertise in solar power.
Created in 2007 on Reunion Island, the Indian Ocean subsidiary today boasts a wide variety of solar farms. Here, it started the Group’s first agrivoltaics plants, as well as the Aquanergie® technology and the first battery storage solutions which have given Akuo sound expertise in Non-Interconnected Zones (NIZ).
Our engagements
Akuo is committed to putting all its expertise and resources into supporting the island’s energy transition and meeting the ambitious goals of the multi-year energy plan, i.e., an installed capacity of 500 MW solar and 92 MW wind by 2028, versus 206 MW and 17 MW respectively in 2020.
On Reunion Island, some thirty employees are active, both on the team in charge of project development, construction and administration, and in our subsidiaries Austral Energy Maintenance which handles the operation and maintenance of our power plants, and Agriterra, in charge of agricultural operations.

Akuo’s teams on Reunion Island uphold values and turn them into action. While producing green electricity, the aim is to allow land to continue to play its primary agricultural role, to create additional benefits for the local population, and to be inventive over the long term.
