West Indies
West Indies: a region with multiple challenges
Akuo has been developing projects in the West Indies for over a decade. We are therefore one of the pioneers of renewable energy in the region. For example, the Bellevue power plant commissioned in 2010 on Marie-Galante island is one of the first solar farms in Guadeloupe. Over the years and through the development of new projects, thanks to a motivated team who loves these island territories and works relentlessly to contribute to the energy transition and self-sufficiency of Martinique and Guadeloupe, we have tailored our approach to fully rise to the energy challenges of these two islands.
Unique projects for an exceptional region
Developing renewable energies in the West Indies is today essential, as this region is considerably impacted by the effects of climate change. Decarbonizing the electricity mix is one of the priorities for the coming years.
Today, our goal is to:
-
Reduce the land coverage of renewable energy plants while maximizing production through the development of technologies such as floating solar;
-
Support agricultural players through the energy transition, by working closely with farmers for the development of our agrivoltaic projects. Food autonomy is a key issue in island areas, as is energy generation;
-
Store and optimize the production of energy in the region in order to offer a stable and constant renewable energy supply and thus achieve the energy self-sufficiency goals while securing the grid.

Akuo West Indies & Caribbean
I am very lucky to be able to contribute to the sustainable development of my native island. With Akuo, we hope to develop renewable energy projects in partnership with the populations of these overseas territories. Martinique and Guadeloupe are pursuing the vital goal of achieving energy self-reliance through renewable energies without compromising their ability to reach other major objectives such as access to healthy, local food.
